Cabin Fever: Chicken Point Cabin / Olson Kundig Architects

Posted by Oak and Oar on February 16, 2011

Welcome to Chicken Point Cabin. Designed by Seattle Washington firm Olson Kundig this lakeside retreat has all the amenities you could ask for.

The idea behind the cabin was a to create a lakeside shelter that would open up to the natural surrounding of the lot. To accomplish this feat Design Principal Tom Kundig implemented a 30′ x 20′ cabin “window”. Opening directly to the lake and patio, the garage-esque door eliminates the barrier to the outdoors.

To mesh the interior with the exterior Olson utilizes low maintenance, unfinished and naturally aged materials including concrete block, steel, concrete floors and plywood to create a natural palette and unique array of textures.

The interior features a custom continuous steal pipe fireplace that runs through the cabin, a custom stainless steel bathroom sink and a wood slab work surface braced by a truck suspension spring. The layout accommodates 10 comfortably.
