MOVEMBER | FACE GROWN AND HAND BRUSHED

Posted by Oak and Oar on November 2, 2011

Every mans favourite month and every women’s most dreaded is upon us. Us men, well we all plug in, dust off, sharpen up and lather on in an effort to bring the world the most astonishing lip ticklers, soup strainers, lip spinach, cookie duster, muzzy, third eyebrow, stach, pushbroom and nose mullets around. This Movember I think I’m going to make a push for the Salvador Dali. Although its been so long since I have been clean shaven that I am thinking I will have to work from the outside in and hope that come November 30th I have something to show for it.

For most it is an opportunity to make a mockery of ourselves and rattle the cages of the women in our lives but it has also become one of the most successful Cancer awareness campaigns.

“During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.”

Having lost my uncle to Prostate Cancer a few years back I know the devastation and toll Cancer has. As you can imagine my appreciation for this project is truly appreciated. To put in perspective the power of the event: In 2010, nearly 119,000 Canadian Mo Bros and Mo Sistas got on board, raising $22.3 million CAD. While the Aussie, who initiated the event raised $25 Million AUD.

If you have a mustache going for the month leave us links to your photos below or hit us on Facebook. You never know you might just win something for your efforts.
