WINNIPEG JETS | ALEXANDER BURMISTROV

Posted on October 28, 2011 by Oak and Oar

We are now almost ten games deep into the Winnipeg Jets inaugural season. Not the start that Winnipeggers had hoped but we are not totally in the basement which is a good sign. And to be honest who actually thought we would actually be on this roller coaster ride this season. After winning tonight, in ridiculous fashion, there do seem to be quite a few bright spots and reasons to be excited. Bright spots, in my humble opinion, have included Kyle Wellwood (whether or not he has a tough time eluding the blue line), Andrew Ladd, Tobias Enstrom, and Nik Antropov. However one lone Jet has really grabbed our attention. Twenty year old Russian born, Alexander Burmistrov. Burmistrov was drafted in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in the 1st round 8th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers. Last season Burmistrov had more of a defensive role with the Thrashers. Suiting up for 74 games, Burmistrov potted 6 goals and 14 assists. After 9 games this season, and undergoing a bit of a role change with the Jets, the 6’1″ center has tallied a point a game (3 goals / 6 assists) and has the highest +/- rating with +3. Not only is he a quarter of the way to last year’s points total but he is one of the strongest skaters, possess bar none the most captivating puck-handling skills and has arguable some of the best on ice vision in the NHL. Yes, arguably. What does not need to be argued is the fact he has quickly become a hometown favourite. We first had a chance to watch Burmistrov play at the 2010 World Juniors in Saskatoon. In 6 games he had 3 goals and an assist. Now I don’t want to get ahead of myself and knock on wood, but according … Continue reading →

5 Minutes | Brandon Svarc

Posted on July 28, 2011 by Oak and Oar

Brandon Svarc, President and Founder of Naked and Famous Denim, was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule to answer a few random questions. In case you aren’t aware, the Naked & Famous Denim collection is proudly made in Canada. Any time Brandon does not designated towards running Naked and Famous is invested into his secondary Canadian based workwear label, Paulrose Products. Originally started by his grandfather, Paul Svarc, Brandon revived the brand as an outlet to further work with vintage Japanese denim and shirting fabrics. Enjoy our inaugural 5 Minute feature with Mr. Brandon Svarc. My job title is… Founder / President / or whatever you want to call me. If I had to describe Naked and Famous in three words I would probably have to go with… Luxury denim basics. If I hadn’t started Naked and Famous I would likely be… The founder of the greatest new candy brand in the world! I think the appeal of specialty denim comes from… Our desire to be unique and to stand out. We want luxury products to differentiate ourselves from the monotony of the mass market. 5 things people don’t likely know about me or the Naked and Famous brand are… 1.)      My grandfather was born in Transylvania so I may or may not be a vampire. 2.)      Our very first collection consisted of 6 mens jeans and 12 womens jeans. 3.)      My middle name is David. 4.)     We made metallic silver weft jeans for women once. 5.)      I have 11 toes. (not really, but that would be a funny rumour) My favourite piece of the 2011 Naked and Famous collection is… Glow in the Dark Selvedge denim jeans! Prolly because it’s the funniest new style. Available now at Barneys. Whenever I pack my bags for Japan… …I’m always loaded up … Continue reading →
