Summer Loitering | Jordan Brugger

Posted on November 15, 2012 by Oak and Oar

Our homie, Adidas Skateboarding and Senate team rider, Jordan Brugger, stayed strapped with his Go Pro this summer and cut a little Manitoba summer loitering montage together. Your standard Manitoba summer from Clear Lake to the Whiteshell ensuring a little Oak + Oar love. Thanks for the support. Shout out to the Senate family in Brandon for their recent win for ‘Fan Favourite Award’ in this years Circa Store Wars competition. Well deserved. Song: Take A Walk (Peking Duck Remix) – Passion Pit

That’s So Necessary | The Hottug

Posted on October 3, 2012 by Oak and Oar

If you have an extra $15,000 laying around, I would first encourage you to go buy a pile of Oak + Oar product, and then direct you to the HotTug. The HotTug is essential a boat meets hot tub/jacuzzi. The HotTug looks like it literally fell off the back of a Yacht. Constructed from wood and fitted with glass finer reinforced polyester and powered by either an electric or standard outboard motor this 8 person hot tub keeps you mobile and warm through a stainless steel stove with a single wall pipe. If you chose not to have it full of hot water the jacuzzi functions as, well an 8 person boat I guess. (via Uncrate)

MAY LONG WEEKEND | THROUGH THE INSTAGRAM LENS

Posted on May 22, 2012 by Oak and Oar

(via. @schellzy) This past weekend a crew of us hit the Whiteshell to catch some sun and indulge in some May long festivities. That and a little video shoot in support of our pals, and homegrown talents, Saint Kris and Rupness. The two have been in the studio working on a few tracks for Saint’s up-coming album including the single ‘Pretty Face’. In the words of J. Cole, it’s about to blow up. I thought about dumping my memory card on here but everyone who came out somehow managed to get up some stellar photos on Instagram. It only made sense to get a well rounded recap of the action so here are a few photos from the weekend from those who managed to find reception. Thanks to Michele, I did learn that even though you look a bit ridiculous holding your phone up under the umbrella the result is instant Instagram upload every time. So next time your at the cabin walking around aimlessly with your hand in the air, offering your phone to God, give it a whirl. The video and single for ‘Pretty Face’ should come out in the next two to three weeks. Make sure you go out and grab the track on iTunes. (via. @japay) (via. @oakandoar) The BBQ got a work out, which only makes sense when you’re at the cabin. All is well when grill master Jeremy Lin Eric is on the grill. And yes he did have a 22 pt lead when we faced off in NBA Jam late Sunday night. I managed to shave it down to 9pts but just couldn’t catch fire in the home stretch and ultimately ran out of time. Although if you cross paths, asked him how it felt to get pumped by the Spurs. I feel like this will become … Continue reading →

THE WEEKEND LAKE | MATT WIEBE

Posted on March 21, 2012 by Oak and Oar

The Weekend Lake from Matt Wiebe on Vimeo. The worst part for me are those in between weeks where the weather debates as to whether it should transition from winter into spring making way for summer, or give us a few more dumps of that light weight snow that turns to slush as it hits the ground. When the snow finally subsides, at least here in Winnipeg, you are greeted by brown. Everything is brown. The snow is gone, so the sleds are tucked away for summer. The lake and the water is still too frigid to get a boat in so you are left stranded on shore passing the time skipping rocks over the combination of ice and water. These are the weeks where I drag the fiancee out of the warm cottage to see who can throw rocks the furthest with their left hand, knowing perfectly well I’m a shoo-in and knowing she would rather be wrapped up in a blank by the fire reading. It appears we won’t have to dwell too long in this transition period this year as the snow is gone and with the rains this weekend gave way to to a misty green. I stumbled across this video by a hometown fella, Matt Wiebe. I have yet to cross paths, but I am telling you his video entitled “The Weekend Lake” really got me excited for summer. On top of the visuals some great editing and song choice. And if for some reason you hate the lake, the outdoors and music, who doesn’t love a Pug. ‘Welcome Home Son’ by Radical Face might just become our song for summer. I encourage you to check out some of Matt’s other videos on vimeo. He also does a great piece with Bram Adey of Rebel … Continue reading →

THE WEEKEND DUMP | THE FLYING FLIVER BOAT

Posted on August 10, 2011 by Oak and Oar

Once a summer our neighbors, and boating enthusiasts, bust out their Flying Fliver boat. This boat was made famous by water ski performers Corky & Corkette at Cypress Gardens in Florida. So it makes sense that our neighbor, who put in time at Cypress Gardens as a stunt driver thirty some years ago, held on to one. In fact if you have copies of James Bond circa the Sean Connery years, you can thank my neighbor for making the boat chase so believable. These boats were a staple for the water show at Cypress and served as a diverse stunt boat hitting jumps, driving up on shore and as you can see form the photos submerging your passenger. Strapped with a 25 horse the boat rips, rather bounces across the water, so you’ll want to hold on tight and hold your breath.

CABIN COMMUTE | LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4

Posted on June 8, 2011 by Oak and Oar

The Kahn Design group have become masters of the Land Rover conversion. Specializing in alloy wheels and conversion kits for just about every luxury automobile on the market the Rover seems to have become a bit of a favourite for Azfal Kahn and his team. The past few Land Rovers I have seen them put their signature on have been Super Charged Range Rovers but this go around its the LR4. This package is a purely cosmetic one that features upgrades for the exterior. This gem features the Project Kahn body kit consisting of a front and rear bumper with vented wheel arches, a revised front grille with a 3D mesh and front wheel arch LED light technology. All this is set off by imposing 22″ Rs multispoke alloys. If you are a fan of this Rover check out these two guys 2011 Range Rover Sport Autobiography and the RS600

Campagna Motors T-Rex

Posted on March 1, 2011 by Oak and Oar

Part of the fun of a weekend at the lake is the trek out there from the city. If your group of friends in anything like ours the approximate 2 hour trip to the lake is a constant beak feast which usually ends with someone crying. Loading up in automobiles is the most common commute for most, although there are a handful who make the trek in luxury via float plane. I imagine it is quite convenient to make the 1 hour 45 min trek in 20 minutes. Well I think I just found my summer commute… Since its launch in 1996 the Campagna Motors and the T-Rex have sparked a great deal of conversation. The line of Campagna vehicles are handmade and assembled in Boucherville, QC minutes outside of Montréal. Campagna Motors is a tight knit company run by a team of 30 employees ranging from management to production line. Powered by a 1352cc inline 4 cylinder Kawasaki engine kicking out 197 horsepower the T-Rex 14RR goes from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km/h. Given my calculations I can make it to the lake in…31 minutes. I guess the only thing that is holding me back at this point in time is the $58,000 price tag. (via. CampagnaMotors)
