North Star | Classic Canadian Sportswear
Over the last few years we have witness the resurgence of some classic brands. One of which that can trace its roots back to Batawa, Ontario. Canadian brand North Star Sportswear was originally founded by the Bata Corporation in the late 1940′s, reaching its pinnacle in popularity in the 1970s – 1980s, when the sportswear movement was at its peak. From there it sat dormant for 20 years, shelved, until it was relaunched in April of last year by Toronto designer Adrian Aitcheson (Too Black Guys) and Arcade Agency’s creative director Pablo Mozo (Though the names might not ring a bell if you google the Team Canada apparel from the 2010 Winter Olympics you will see the mastery of collaborative efforts). Hitting the ground running, the brand re-issued a few classics for their Summer 2010 collection that consisted of tributes to the bright colors of the 1970s-80s. The current Fall/Winter collection continues to pay homage to the iconic history, meshing the sportswear roots with the essences of today’s style-savvy consumers. The duo’s background and history of successful collaboration is sure to make the next few years of the brands revival very interesting. I would venture I guess that this brand will only continue on the path of success. North Star Sportswear
