Well Wishes | Sarah Burke

Posted by Oak and Oar on January 12, 2012

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Canadian Freestyle Skier Sarah Burke and her family. After a training accident on Tuesday at the Superpipe in Park City, Utah, Sarah was air lifted to University Hospital in Salt Lake City. She remains intubated and in an induced coma in the neuro crtical care unit.

Park City is also the site where American snowboarder Kevin Pearce suffered a serious traumatic brain injury on Dec 31, 2009 after taking a spill in the same superpipe. Last month, after two years away from the sport recovering, Kevin got back on the snowboard.

Burke is considered a pioneer of skiing superpipe. Her lobbying efforts are one of the key reasons the sport is set to debut at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The Ontario native has conquered the sport with a highly decorated mantel that consists of four Winter X Games championships, a FIS Freestyle World Ski Championship and ESPN’s 2007 Action Sport’s Athlete of the Year.

Our thoughts and prayers,

Oak + Oar
